If you only enter one race in Hong Kong in 2019, then we recommend this one. Running for a cause is always worthwhile, no matter the distance, but doing so on the past training ground of the Gurkha's and finishing with a Nepalese curry - nothing else comes close! When we both arrived in Hong Kong in the early nineties, the only 100km event was Trailwalker - started by the Gurkha's and a team event. It was for charity and the ethos then was based on the original concept - simply finish as a 4 man team as fast as you can. The Gurkha and Nepalese contribution to Hong Kong has extended well beyond the legacy of Oxfam Trailwalker, with many descendants of the many Gurkha's who served here settled and working in Hong Kong. It should also be no surprise to those who were privileged to have served with Gurkha's that the Nepalese would go on to produce world-class ultra-runners and host great races in Nepal.Whilst memories of training runs in full kit and boots are in the dim and distant past - along with the black and white photos - bragging rights as to who had a faster BFT time (Basic Fitness Test - best effort for a mile and a half in boots) and who could actually read a map will likely never reach a conclusion. It may have been Pte Lee (aka Pete the Feet), but more likely James 35....
