UN Women Asia and the Pacific

Women and girls in Asia and the Pacific are more likely to be poor and missed by social protection services than men. On average, women and girls spend up to 11 times more of their day on unpaid care and domestic work than men and boys do across the region, where the gender pay gap is estimated anywhere between 1.5% to 49.6%. It is also the only region in the world where the participation of women in the labour force is falling. This inequality prompts many women to migrate to the cities and abroad to find better job opportunities, though many end up with some of the worst jobs imaginable. In addition, the high levels of violence against women and harmful practices, which may be the most widespread violation of human rights, are extremely concerning - up to one in two women has experienced physical and/or sexual violence from an intimate partner in the last 12 months in countries across the region.  UN Women is doing its outmost to address some of the most pressing issues women and girls are facing in the region today – but we cannot do this alone.  We rely almost entirely on voluntary financial contributions to sustain our work to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment and need your support to engage as many people as possible and raise much needed funding.  This #WomensMonth, we invite you to support our fundraising campaign and make a difference!

Not much of a sweet tooth? Your donation remains more than welcome! The IssueEscalating violence in Myanmar’s Rakhine State triggered the world’s fastest-growing refugee crisis in 2017. Since August 2017, more than 745,000 Rohingya refugees have fled into Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. The scale and speed of the influx more than doubled the population living in the refugee settlements and resulted in a critical humanitarian emergency. The severity of gender-based violence coupled with restrictive social norms has made the Rohingya crisis particularly devastating for women and girls. UN Women works to ensure that Rohingya women and girls are safe and have access to education, health care, and economic empowerment opportunities. With your support UN Women will be able to:Establish more Multi-Purpose Women Centres as safe spaces for women where women are safe, get psycho-social support, paramedic care, health and emergency services, and life-saving information.Build additional women-only toilets and bathing facilities, offering women greater sanitation and security.Support skills training to provide women with income-generating opportunities.Advance gender equality.

Updated 15 MarchHELP WOMEN AND GIRLS IN NEED BY HELPING YOURSELF GETTING ITEMS YOU NEED!Dear my colleagues and friends in Bangkok!I am leaving Bangkok on 24 March after finishing my 1-year experience at UN Women Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. I have a variety of items i have used and they are all in very good quality. Now, I want to give them to others who need them the most right now, instead of throwing them away. And further, i thought it would be even better if i can raise a small fund for refugee women and girls in our region by this! Reina (aka Peppa Pig) decided to celebrate #WomensDay by taking a real action towards gender equality. We are pledging her 4th birthday for a very important cause. This year instead of gifts, we would like to receive your support to help women and girls most in need. Your donation will go towards UN Women, to support Rohingya women and girls living in refugee camps in Cox's Bazaar. Help us change the lives of many girls! Thank you so much for your contribution! The issue:  Since August 2017, more than 745,000 Rohingya refugees have fled into Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. Women and children are hit hardest by the crowding. At night, women must dare the darkness to go to the camp toilets, given the lack of adequate lighting and security in the area.UN Women works to ensure that  Rohingya women and girls are safe and have access to education, health care, and economic empowerment opportunities. Your support will help to:Establish more Multi-Purpose Women Centres as safe spaces for women, where women are safe, get psycho-social support, paramedic care, health and emergency services, and life-saving information.Build additional women-only toilets and bathing facilities, offering women greater sanitation, and security.Support skills training to provide women with income-generating opportunities.Advance gender equality.Join me and set up your own fundraiser: https://bit.ly/2TDcyRG
