RunWithFriends is coming over to Melbourne to give the chance to all Aussie supporters of Friends-International to make a difference!On November 30th, our team will be doing a 10km walk/run from St Kilda to Elwood foreshore return and we need your support to have a big impact.Why #RunWithFriends?Despite increasing development across Southeast Asia, much of the population continues to be pushed to the side lines and marginalized from society. Friends-International supports children, youth and families throughout Southeast Asia in building better futures. We are the team from Kaliyan Mith (meaning “Good Friends” in Khmer), which is a program of Friends-International in Siem Reap.We all have different expertise – social workers, teachers, administration and finance etc. – and we are coming together to run and raise money for Friends-International! Last year we ran and raised over $1,000, an amazing achievement that we want to beat this time around! So why are we running together with Friends? It’s simple – our work makes a dramatic difference. Every year, Friends supports 1,200 children to go back to school, 650 youth to attend vocational training, and 450 people to find secure employment. With your help, we can make these numbers POP in 2020! And finally, Friends-International is more than just a name – we really are friends and are excited to run together! We’ll be training hard and trying our best to fund-raise with each other over the next couple months. Thank you for your support, your contribution will go a long way!

Friends International is a leading social enterprise committed to saving the lives and building the futures of the most marginalised children, youth and families in Southeast Asia. They work with children and young people in vulnerable situations – unemployed youth, migrants and refugees, children living outside of family care, out of school children and working children. They set out to achieve change with a holistic approach. The first step is ensuring the safety of children by providing medical care, counselling, support groups and rehabilitation. They then provide education and job opportunities through vocational training, working closely with like minded organisations. The social enterprise’s approach differs from traditional ‘pity charity’ and thus offers empowering, sustainable solutions. Each year they support 51,000 children, youth and families to go to school, attend vocational training and find employment.What has running got to do with it?This year, Friends International aim to raise $40,000 through #RunWithFriends, a fundraising initiative taking part in major running events in Bangkok, Singapore and Angkor Wat.

From Chau-As most of you know, I have had quite a big change in my career recently, jumping from private sector to the NGO/social enterprise sector. I’m currently working for Friends International based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. They are a well-regarded, trustworthy and amazing organisation. I got to see first hand the fantastic work that has been done to help vulnerable marginalized children, youth and families in Cambodia and across the region. I haven't done much fundraising before simply because the concept isn't a thing in Vietnam. And as most of you know Currie and I, we are not the sort of people who want to push ourself out there 😜 running in a hot humid weather 🔥 to conquer any competition - it’s basically insane! We would rather go to a pub and have a lovely pint instead 🍻 ! However, this year is different 🙋♂️🙋♀️ . Because this is an organisation and cause that I’m dedicated to and of course Currie wants to support me and our amazing work, we are joining the run this year and aim to raise $500++as a target 😍 .Here are a few examples of the real impact your donation can have: $10 - health care for one student for a month$25 - one school kit for a child to go to school$50 - a month of vocational training for one student$120 - provides food and accommodation to a student for a month$250 - cost to launch a caregivers small business---------------------------From Currie -Cambodia has had a special place in my heart since I first visited back in 2007. I am now in my second round of living in this fascinating country and am lucky enough to have started a new chapter in my life both personally, with Chau joining me here, and professionally, working at a stellar international school. There is a lot that has changed since I first visited the Kingdom of Wonder, infrastructure is improving, cities providing more expat comforts and the society is modernizing. Despite advancements and improvements the situation for those on the lowest end of the social and economic scale is still pretty dire. Poverty, drug abuse, sexual exploitation and lack of access to education are problems that persist and do not receive the attention from the problematic governing regime. Friends International is one of the most well respected and established NGOs here working to improve the lives of each and every Cambodian. It isn’t often that I take the opportunity to actively fundraise, it has been a long time since freshman year cross country team, and I kind of hate running. However, this is a good cause I have some history with, both past and present, and thought it would be a great opportunity to try and add even a little bit of support. Nous sommes les baguettes !Un groupe de baguettes sortant du four, avec une tendre mie et bien chaud pour réaliser un semi marathon dans les temples d'Angkor. On pourra dire ce que l'on veut, les baguettes essayent de s'expatrier partout, de montrer la voie de la baguette, la seule et unique. Que cela soit avec votre jambon beurre parisien, votre beurre salé breton, ou encore votre huile d'olives de provence, les baguettes répondront toujours à l'appel !Alors aujourd'hui les baguettes ont besoin de vous !Oui toi, derrière ton écran, qui mange ta baguette avec de la confiture. Oui toi aussi, derrière ton smartphone, qui déguste ta baguette avec un carré de chocolat.C'est l'heure de nous aider pour que les baguettes courent pour soutenir Friends International.Un petit don, c'est un énorme pas en avant pour les enfants.Si tu peux te passer de baguette pendant une semaine, tu peux transformer cette petite économie en un geste magnifique.Pendant une semaine, tu devras manger ton fromage, ton saucisson, et ton paté sans une once de baguette, mais tu peux le faire !Allez, on espère te compter parmi la team baguette !Pi, comme nous sommes de vraies baguettes, délicieuses et croustillantes, on veut bien pimenter notre course :>> tous les 500$ de dons : vous choisissez un accessoire à avoir durant la course pour l'une des baguettesMerci pour votre soutien !!!
