Hi everyone! My name is Xjinette, for this summer break I decided that I would volunteer for AESIEC as part of the Light A Refugee's programme. I chose this project specifically to support refugees and underprivileged students as I believe that it is a fundamental right that everyone is provided education and equal opportunities.

A lot has happened during this covid-19 term it causes a lot of ups and downs throughout our lives but luckily we still have a place that we can call home and there's a place where we can learn to reach our goals. Some of us especially the refugee kids are confused and not all of them have the privilege to have normal education, most of them are living their life just to survive and wish they have the same right to have a proper education. we have our own goal it goes the same way as the rest of the refugee kids! all of them have the right to choose their own goal and grind to reach their goal. For this reason, I'm doing a fundraising event with Light A Refugee's Dream to find a good amount of money to help the refugee kids. I believe with all the support and help we together can make an impact on the kids!

Hi, I'm Ee Ching. I'm a volunteer as a Malay teacher for the Year 6 students in the project "Light A Refugee's Dream". I am so lucky that born and raised in my own country. Our government provided free education up to high school. When we are kids, we don't have  to work, no need to be afraid of the war... Most of us know that education is a privilege for kids in Malaysia but did you ever know that some of the kids do not have basic rights to be educated just because they are refugees.  They are not granted the right to attend government schools but allow a basic education in refugee centres. They have dreams too. The student I teach told me that he wants to be a chef because he likes cooking and another girl told me that she wants to be a ballet dancer. This is the reason why I'm here and volunteering on this project to light up their dreams. I wish education brings hope to them. I hope their future can be bright. We cannot choose where we want to be born and which family we want to be in. It is the same thing for child refugees. They can't choose to be born in a country where war will not happen and where peace will always be there. They might come from Myanmar, Philippines or Sri Lanka. They need ours help that's why they are here. Education is the only way to empower them. Knowledge is the only thing that can save child refugees from the darkness. Unfortunately, education for refugees is not easily accessible and lacks sufficient resources and dedicated teachers. So, the "Light A Refugee's Dream" project of AIESEC at Taylor's University is here to voice up for them. The donation we received will be used to buy technology devices for refugees in Manna House Learning Centre. For example, tablets, laptops and WIFI. We appreciate your help in lighting up a refugee's dream. Every child has the right to be educated. Thank you for your donation to light up refugees' dreams. More information: https://www.simplygiving.com/event/atu_lard_summer2022https://www.humanrightspulse.com/mastercontentblog/malaysias-refugees-are-being-denied-access-to-fun....

AIESEC in Taylor's University

Currently, I am participating in raising funds for AIESEC at Taylor’s University which benefits the fundraising event named ‘Light a Refugee’s Dream’ volunteering project by this association. In this project, I learn more about the refugees’ situation in Malaysia. They don't have access to formal public education like we do and lack resources such as teachers and books, and their learning environment is poor especially during the pandemic. We all know that education is important especially for children since they are young and they should absorb the proper knowledge. Standing in their shoes, I hope to assist them in their pursuit of quality education, which everyone should deserve, right?I was very fortunate that my parents provided me with financial support at all levels of education, enabling me to continue my studies without difficulty, and I hope that the same is happening for the refugees. I still remember during one of my live teaching sessions with the students, I asked them to read the textbook in advance before every class, and a boy said, 'We don't have a textbook teacher, because we don't have school.' This surprised me; I am at a loss for words, but I asked them to read the e-textbook. As a volunteer in this project, besides trying my best to teach them well and raise funds I don’t know what else I can do so I want to contribute to completing my task well. The raised funds will contribute to Warrior Bride Learning Centre and SRRC to continue providing the refugee children with their necessities such as stationary, books, utility bills, internet, and groceries. In addition, this will enable AIESEC at Taylor's University to sustain this project by obtaining 30% of the funds and persist in their semiannual initiative to promote awareness of refugee children's right to education. You can read this page for more details: https://www.simplygiving.com/event/atu_lard_summer2022Thank you for reading this and thanks to everyone who donates!

AIESEC in Taylor's University

Some of you may think education is something that is totally ordinary. Like it is easy to go school, college or university. However to some, it is more of a privilege. In a society that requires an education cert for higher paying jobs, most employers would not even look at applicants who have only a high school certificate or even none. It is the same for me. Had I not have any financial aid from my scholarship providers, you would not have seen me here, or seen this post. I would have worked straight after high school to earn some income to fund my own education. Because of this, helping the underprivileged especially in education is one of my top goals whenever volunteering. Because I myself have been given the opportunity to receive higher education, I would also like to help others.I am fortunate, born and raised in my own country, Malaysia, I got to enjoy the benefits of free education up to high school provided by the government. However, very much different from me are the refugee children in Malaysia. Because they are refugees, they do not have basic rights to formal education in Malaysia. Being stuck in a country not theirs, and not able to easily leave or go home, they are faced with even more challenges of not being able to work or receive education. I believe all children should have the right to receive education, especially in this modern society or else the endless cycle to poverty would not stop for them. That is why organization like Warrior Bride Learning Centre exists, that take in the refugee children and provide them with education. The project that I am participating in aims to provide quality education to the children in Warrior Bride even though it is only a month and to raise some money to help sustain and provide the refugee children with basic needs to continue education, especially in the online period (read more : https://www.simplygiving.com/event/atu_lard_summer2022).The money received from donations will be used to buy devices like tablet and laptop and WIFI for the refugee children to continue their education. Thank you everyone who donates and helping those less fortunate!

Hello everybody. I'm a Sri Shivaaneswari, an undergraduate from Taylor's University. I am currently participating in a project being run by AIESEC Malaysia Association (Taylor's University). I have decided to work on the "Light A Refugee's Dream" project, which will provide me the chance to work with refugee students. As is widely known, many Malaysian refugee children lack access to quality education. It is vital for us to understand that every student, regardless of their background, has a right to education. Education gives refugees the knowledge and skills they need to lead successful, happy lives on their own. Refugees are enlightened by education, which enables them to discover more about themselves and the world while working to rebuild their lives and communities.I am therefore encouraging everyone out there to join us in helping the refugee children by providing them with the education they deserve. I would be very grateful if everyone could provide a modest amount to help these kids so that we can fulfill our goal of improving their future and well-being. Thank you in advance for your kindness. Every dollar counts, and we really appreciate your donation.

Hi. I'm XIE YAN, a master student at Taylor's University. I'm participating in Light a Refugee's Dream project organized by AIESEC Malaysia. AIESEC in Taylor's University designed this project to increase the education level of the refugees, which can protect them from forced recruitment into armed groups, child labour, sexual exploitation and child marriage. Then, education  strengthens community resilience and empowers by giving refugees the knowledge and skills to live productive, fulfilling and independent lives. Thus, it's extremely for them to receive sufficient educational support. While we are actively seeking for more solutions, we need your help to make our efforts go even further! If you’re able, we’d love it if you could make a donation to help us achieve our mission and help these students to achieve higher educational level. Thank you in advance for your contribution. You have no idea how much it means to me to have your support.

Hey, my name is Wannakorn, and I am a Malaysian Youth Volunteer under the Light a Refugee's Dream Project for AIESEC at Taylor's University. The funds raised will contribute to a better quality of education for refugee students, who often do not have access to public education, internet access, and electronic devices. Often, there is also insufficient funding for these refugee students. Refugee students often flee to Malaysia for safety, however, still, they are exploited to abuse, child labour, sexual exploitation and child marriage without proper education. Light a Refugee's Dream (LARD) was created to increase the education level of these refugee students, and your donations will help ensure that these refugee students are able to continue strengthening their education so that they have increased opportunities beyond the classroom, a better standard of living overall, and protect their welfare. As a future teacher, I believe in education equality and equity, whereby all students have the same opportunities in the classroom regardless of race, gender, socioeconomic status, or whether they are refugee students. Education should be a right, not privilege, that all students should have access to. Your funds will greatly help towards this cause, but also support me on my weight loss journey as I will force myself to exercise with each donation made :D To help: 1) Click the link on my bio, which will lead you to my SimplyGiving page 2) Make a donation – I would appreciate any amount! 3) You're done! Thank you in advance for supporting me and the refugee students! It really means a lot and all the funds will really help these refugee students.

hello hello! I am a college student from Taylor's College volunteering with AIESEC, Light A Refugee Dream project to raise funds for the MANNA House Learning Centre (MNHLC).In Malaysia, out of 25,499 refugees under the age of 18, 70% do not receive proper education as there are no legal frameworks in place to address their situation. MANNA House Learning Centre (MNHLC) is an education centre established by Manna House Centre in conjunction with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to cater for the education of refugee children. These funds will be used to sustain the welfare, operations of the refugee centres and increase the education level for the refugees.  My minimum goal is to raise RM350 for this project by 28th August. Any amount of donation or just simply spreading the word will be greatly appreciated!
