Lily is my English class teacher and was my sister's teacher 2 years ago. She is a great teacher and my family and I are very fond of her.Her son, Alfie, got very sick. His bone marrow does not produce enough red cells (aplastic anemia).I participate in an open water swimming challenge with my classmates: we will swim around Middle Island in Hong Kong for more than 2 kilometers. This is my first time to swim in the ocean. I'm scared, but I am trying my best to help raise money for Alfie's medical treatments. My name is Natasha, I am in CM1C and I had the great chance to have Lily as my English teacher this year. When I learnt about the Ocean swimming challenge for Alfie, Lily's 6 YO son who is very sick, I decided to participate right away. I cannot participate to the challenge in 10 days because we left HK for summer break however I was proud to put all my heart and energy in the trainings with my schoolmates for Alfie until I left. Lily taught us to give the best of ourselves.

Aujourd'hui, je nage bien au-delà du filet anti-requin. J'ai été piquée par une "sea-lice", ça pique pendant 10 minutes. Je suis toujours motivée !Je suis fière d'aider ma maîtresse ! My wife and I were recently enjoying lunch at our local bistro. At the next table, a mother was explaining the concept of " fundraising" to her young daughter (yes ... I was eavesdropping). It turns out that the teacher of her daughter, has a son, named Alfie. Sadly, Alfie has been diagnosed with aplastic anaemia (bone marrow disease). When the mother explained that the fundraising involved a swimming challenge, my ears perked up. I rudely interrupted and asked the mother for more details, explaining to her that I am very much involved in swimming/coaching, and offering to help in any way I could. That evening I got a call from Patrice, a well-known Hong Kong open water swimmer. We had a long chat, exchanged ideas and decided to meet that coming weekend to start training the kids. My daughter Charlotte and some of her teammates have also joined in coaching and supervising the training sessions. The Challenge - swim around Middle Island approximately 2.5km of open water swimming. It has been three weeks now since we started training, sometimes in quite tough conditions (storms, rough waters, occasional jellyfish and sadly a lot of plastic). This EXTRAORDINARY group of 9-10 year old kids have had to overcome the fear and anxiety of swimming in open water (beyond the shark nets) and have shown incredible spirit, dedication and most of all heart, in support of their teacher and her son. Funds are being raised to support Alfie's medical bills. In these difficult times, any act of kindness would greatly appreciated. Jérôme

My teacher taught us of never giving up and she never failed to teach me, so when I learned that my teacher's son Alfie was sick and this challenge came up on the first day i was there ready to do every thing it took to help and beat my record of swimming with 2.8km .I am fighting with you Lily and Alfie, so i am counting on you to help me now.

I thought I would never swim 2.4 km but my teacher's son is ill so I'm going to do it.My mother thinks I swim well but sometimes i can be very clumsy while swimming. My mother also thinks I swim like a frog. I have never swum in a club before.I'm going to try my best on that day and swim on and on without stopping. I learned how to be resilient. Now I really want to help Lily and Alfie because they need resilience too.

Hello, My name is Louis. I am 9 years old and I already took swimming classes in the past but then I stopped. I enjoy swimming but I got motivated the most when was told about this challenge and what subject it was for. When my mum asked if I would do it or not, I wasn't sure I was going to say yes. This is a big challenge for me, as I had never done any open water training for such long distances before. We are training for a total distance of 2.5km, to swim around Middle Island in Hong Kong. We are training every Saturday and Sunday mornings, whatever the weather forecasts! We have trained under the rain, in scorching heat, and with a storm ! I do this with my school friends for Alfie, my teacher's son who is sick. It is absolutely worth the effort! Hello,My name is Felix and I'm one of the swimmer in this challenge.I'm not a competitive swimmer but I love water. We got inspired by kids of our age who did a similar swim for charity.
