Please share this page to your network. Thank you in advance for your generosity and support!______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________In 2011, Carla was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome, which is a collection of symptoms due to autoimmune-induced kidney damage. Because of this, her body started to swell and she often experienced a massive headache. Eventually, she needed to take a break from college to focus on her treatment. Around mid-2012, she started to recover and got the chance to finish her degree in biotechnology, got married in 2015, and had the chance to experience a normal life.However, in August 2015 Carla started to experience all the symptoms she had in 2011. A more thorough check-up and biopsies revealed that the nephrotic syndrome she had before was caused by Amyloidosis. Amyloidosis is a rare condition that causes an abnormal protein called amyloid to build up in the body. Amyloid deposits can eventually damage organs and cause them to fail. In Carla's case, her amyloid accumulates and gets deposited in the kidney, which results in a reduction of the kidney's ability to filter and hold on to proteins.Amyloidosis is not curable. Treatments aim to slow amyloid protein production and reduce symptoms. Since then, her condition fluctuates. Some days she looks totally normal and can function normally. Yet she can suddenly get very sick and exhausted. In November 2017, her condition went downhill really fast. By October 2018, Carla already had Stage 5 kidney failure.As for now, Carla needs to undergo hemodialysis 3 times a week. She also has to take multiple medications to treat her symptoms, like high blood pressure, increased hemoglobin, and many more. In the past 3 months, she had to be sent to ICU 2 times for multiple reasons, like coughing up blood and difficulties in breathing. So far, with the help of family and friends, Carla has managed to provide for and supplement herself with the necessary medication and treatments. However, funds are running low, while the price of the medication and treatments are very high. We are therefore URGENTLY reaching out to everyone and their network for their help, by either sharing this page or kindly donating.
