I’m Kiran Kreer. A Photographer. Writer. Explorer. And some call me a Humanitarian. These are my labels. I been traveling and documenting lives throughout Asia since 2012.
After 15 years in the corporate bubble, I decided to quit my job/business, sell everything I owned and leave Malaysia, my home. To start doing what I loved most, photographing people, writing and exploring. Something that just started without a plan, has become my life's purpose today. I then went on traveling across Asia and parts of Europe, sharing human rights stories, a different side of travelers and those living in disaster zones.
In 2013 I started a social project called ‘Give Them Light‘ in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyah in the Philippines, publishing stories of those who survived the disaster. I also saw firsthand the importance of lighting for communities without electricity, and started raising funds to donate solar light bulbs to those living off the grid.
As a continuation of the success from 'Give Them Light', I have started a new fundraising campaign in 2016 titled 'Ride of Lights'.
The goal of 'Ride of Lights' is to raise a minimum of US$25,000 to purchase materials for 3 schools and 500 Solar Lights for 3 to 4 different villages in Nepal.
The rough breakdown of the expenditure is as follows:
- Purchase of school building materials – US$ 10,500
- Purchase of 500 Nokero Solar Lights – US$ 7,500
- Motorcycle Expenses, Fuel & Repairs – US$ 3,500
- Accommodation and Food – US$ 3,500
Every penny matters when it comes to social projects in Nepal and India, as the paper currency converts to a bigger purpose when used in these rural locations, material cost and supplies.
