Habitat Challenge Day 2012 aims to raise funds to support HFH China’s house restoration and disaster mitigation projects in Hong Kong and China. The inaugural event will be held on 29 April 2012 (Sunday). Participants will cover a distance of 12 km. as they walk along the northwestern coast of Lantau island. They will begin in Tung Chung and end in Tai O where they can see the fruits of Habitat labor in the fishing village.
Tai O is the site of a house restoration and community revitalization project started by HFH China in 2010. With the help of volunteers, Habitat is helping elderly people in the fishing village to repair and strengthen as well as spruce up their stilt houses to improve safety and the quality of life.
Participants can sign up to join a Pacer Team or a Dasher Team and take part in games at stations set up along the route. The walk offers opportunities for team-building and for enjoying a beautiful day out. If you have participated in the past restoration project in Tai O, here comes a chance for you to witness your effort in bringing a better living environment for the elderly!
