Hey there! How would you like to make a difference? :) My name is Arati and I’m embarking on a journey. A journey that not only revolves around my life but the lives of others as well. I hope to someday change the world, one step at a time, slowly but surely. In a few months, I will be embarking on my very first extraordinary journey. As I will be participating in a Youth Cultural Exchange program organized by Project WHEE! In order to participate in the project I will need to raise funds to cover my basic expenses for the entire trip. Are you aware of the existence of the Kelabit tribe? If you aren't, it is completely understandable. The Kelabit tribe is an indigenous tribe in the interior of Sarawak, Malaysia and also our target community. The main aim of the program is to help the Kelabit women in Bario (a small aboriginal village located in the highlands of Sarawak) to earn some income through eco-tourism. Currently, there are 25 homestays in Bario which are already hosting mainly Western eco-tourists. In order for them to further succeed in grasping the attention of even more tourist, the Kelabit women in Bario will need to possess the ability to communicate with the tourist with ease. Seeing as, English is an international language, we the volunteers from the youth cultural exchange program will be assigned to approximately 1 or 2 Bario women to teach English. We will be using the technique of shadowing to accomplish this. Meaning, we will be simultaneously helping the Bario women with their everyday chores and teaching them English along the way.
