About Us
ACRES (Animal Concerns Research & Education Society) is a pioneering Singapore-based charity and Institution of Public Character, founded by a group of Singaporeans in 2001 with the aim of promoting animal welfare.
As a non-profit organization big on ambitions, ACRES addresses key animal and wildlife issues in Singapore through 6 focus areas: Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation, Tackling the Wildlife Trade, Zoo Animal Welfare, Humane Education, Community Outreach and Promoting Cruelty-Free Living.
Since the official opening of the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC) in August 2009, ACRES has rescued, treated and rehabilitated many wildlife animals in Singapore. The animals we rescue are either trapped native wild animals trying to assimilate into our fast paced urban jungle or victims of the illegal exotic pet trade.
The AWRC and the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Team operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and is resulting in a heavy strain on our resources. The process of rescuing an animal and releasing him or her back into their natural habitat or repatriating them involves several costly factors as follows:
- Full physical check-up of the animal.
- Microchip implant for identification.
- Medication and nutritional supplements, with veterinary treatment or surgery if required.
- Upkeep of the ACRES wildlife rescue centre
- Maintenance of our animal rescue and veterinary care equipment.
- Transportation costs to release an animal back into the wild or repatriate them.
Your contribution will directly help to safeguard their health as well as aid in the construction of various enriching structures such as slopes, burrows, tunnels and pools in their enclosures. If possible, we aim to repatriate the animals to rescue centres in their countries of origin, and your contribution will help pay for their journey home too if this can be arranged.
