Personal Challenge

Running and bringing hope ...

My Story

Chris McNamara
Executive Director
Global Financial Services Asia Pacific / Japan

Professional Background
I am the regional head of Global Financial Services in Asia Pacific & Japan, responsible for defining and delivering key financial analysis and support to Merck/MSD’s regional business units to drive business results.  As a Finance leader, it is important for us to drive efficiency into operations, optimizing resource allocation such that we ensure appropriate Research & Development expenditure into many therapies, including Oncology.

Joining the Company in 1981, I have held positions within Manufacturing and Commercial divisions for over 3 decades, partnering with Senior Management teams from cross functional areas to contribute to Company Goals and Objectives.  Most recently, I was the Global Lead for Merck Finance transformation of the Local Market Operating Model, a critical component of Merck’s Global Finance Operations transformation. I have over 20 years of international managerial experience and am currently based in Singapore.

I am a FCPA of Australia and holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting sub major Law) degree from University of Western Sydney.  I am also trained as a Merck Lean Six Sigma “Executive Belt”.

About Me
Who inspires me?
“People” - Time is a limited resource and maximizing a valuable asset, getting the best out of people, seeing people achieve their aspirations in what they endeavor to do, is inspirational.

My hobbies?
In one word - “Rugby”.  Being outside, training, playing or watching rugby takes up most of my weekends.

Why am I taking part in this race?
I support cancer awareness as many family and friends have been impacted by cancer.  On a personal note, my brother was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia which required a bone marrow transplant.  I had donated my bone marrow, but in the end the cancer was in remission for a short period and my brother passed.

Once impacted by cancer, one's perspective on what is important in life changes.  Cancer research is high risk but rewards are immeasurable in terms of extending life and time you spend with family & friends.   I feel fortunate to work for a Company researching various forms of cancer types.  Recent successes in commercializing treatment for melanoma, and ongoing studies in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (new NSCLC) and other cancer types bring hope to patients on a global scale.

Cancer does not discriminate, so join me in the Race Against Cancer.
