One Goal’s fundraising appeal for Nepal
Together with the AFC Champions League, One
Goal is raising funds for earthquake relief in the south central Asian country
Nepal following the deadliest disaster in the country’s history.
Nepal is already among the poorest and
least-developed countries in the world. After being hit by two catastrophic
earthquakes, the health and wellbeing of Nepalese children is affected more
than ever as families are burdened with so many concerns amidst scanty
resources. Nutrition for mothers and children, if not intentionally sought, can
go forgotten in the aftermath of disaster.
Your donation will support the earthquake
response by:
·
- helping to meet the emergency needs of survivors, and
·
- strengthening the resilience and self-recovery of
earthquake affected children and their communities.
When living conditions are improved,
livelihoods are restored, and children are protected and cared for, parents and
caregivers can better provide for their children including nutrition.
*All donations will support World Vision’s
earthquake relief in Nepal.
About the earthquakes
Two catastrophic earthquakes—the first on 25
April 2015 and an ensuing earthquake following aftershocks on 12 May—struck the
south central Asian country of Nepal taking the lives of more than 8,600
people. The deadliest disaster in Nepal’s history, some 8 million people are
affected and an estimated 1.7 million children urgently need aid.
While potable water, food, temporary shelter
and protection for children are the most immediate needs in the aftermath of
disaster, nutrition for pregnant women and children is a major health concern
and can go forgotten if not intentionally sought.

One Goal’s core partner
World Vision has worked with communities in Nepal for more than a decade
focusing on maternal and child health, education, child protection,
livelihoods, and water, sanitation and hygiene. World Vision’s earthquake
response has an initial phase targeting 100,000 survivors in the worst affected
areas with a focus on meeting emergency needs and strengthening the resilience
and self-recovery of affected children and their communities. World Vision is
distributing essentials to families and is providing a safe place for children through
temporary learning centers called Child-Friendly Spaces. At these
Child-Friendly Spaces children are given space and an opportunity to learn
through activities including sport.
In addition but unrelated to this particular
fundraising appeal: One Goal Australia supports and helps fund sports for
development and maternal health projects in the country to combat malnutrition
and promote a healthy lifestyle by increasing access to and participation in
sport. In one region, a One Goal pilot programme is promoting improved child health and an active lifestyle for
youth through football clinics and nutrition workshops. The programme targets
4,000 students from 10 secondary schools and approximately 10,000 parents.
